The 2018 IGA Senior Match Play begins on Thursday, May 31st at Amana Colonies Golf Course.  There are 59 players playing in both an Open and Super Senior Division. 

 

Players face an 18-hole stroke play round on Thursday morning that will determine their seed for the respective brackets.  Then Round 1 matches will be played on Thursday afternoon.  Friday will feature Round of 16 and Quarterfinal matches while Saturday will see the Semifinals and Finals played in the morning and afternoon, respectively.

The semifinal matches are set in both the Championship and Super-Senior Division of the IGA Senior Match Play. 

 

In the Championship on Saturday morning Tom Norton of Muscatine will face Bret Taylor of Booneville in one semifinal while Joe Palmer of West Des Moines squares off against Pat Ryan of Marshalltown in the other.  Norton vs. Taylor is a rematch from last year as Norton defeated Taylor in the quarterfinals at Fort Dodge CC.  Meanwhile, Palmer is gunning for his 3rd Senior Match Play crown, as he won the title in 2013 at Fort Dodge CC and again in 2015 at Veenker Memorial GC in Ames.

 

In the Super Senior Bracket #1 seed Steve Kahler will square off against reigning IGA Super Senior Player of the Year Rob Christensen.  Jim Butler of Fort Madison faces John Peters of of Muscatine in the other semifinal.  Butler is a three-time IGA Senior Player of the Year while Peters won that award in 2004. 

 

Tee times for Saturday were moved up to begin at 7:15 a.m. on account of a strong chance of afternoon storms.

Joe Palmer will square off against Tom Norton in the 2018 IGA Senior Match Play Championship Match at Amana Colonies Golf Course in Amana, IA.  Palmer, who is going for his third title in this event, defeated Pat Ryan 5 & 4 Saturday morning while Norton defeated Bret Taylor 4 & 2 in his semifinal match.  Norton will be seeking his first victory in this championship.

 

In the Super-Senior bracket (65+), reigning IGA Super-Senior Player of the Year Rob Christensen will face John Peters for the championship, as both won hard fought semifinal matches.  Christensen won the 18th hole in his semifinal match against Steve Kahler to send it to extra holes, where he won on the 19th hole.  Then Peters managed to drain an 18-foot birdie putt on the final hole to defeat Jim Butler 1 up in his semifinal match.

Joe Palmer of West Des Moines won his 3rd IGA Match Play Championship on Saturday afternoon at Amana Colonies Golf Club in Amana, IA.  Palmer defeated Tom Norton of Muscatine 5 & 4 in the championship match.  This was the second straight year Norton finished as the Senior Match Play Runner-up.  Palmer also won titles in 2013 at Fort Dodge CC and 2015 at Veenker Memorial GC in Ames.

Rob Christensen of Marshalltown is the champion of the Super Senior Match Play bracket.  Christensen, who won the IGA Super-Senior Player of the Year award last year, defeated John Peters of Muscatine 4 & 2 in the final match.  The win vaults Christensen into a big lead in this year's Super Senior Player of the Year race, while Peters runner-up finish moved him from 11th to 2nd in the standings.
